Even though general manager Jeff Gorton has been active doing due diligence and attempting to pull off deals — The Post has learned the Rangers tried hard to get the fourth-overall selection from Edmonton in last week’s entry draft but could not make it work — sources report the Blueshirts have been offered pennies on the dollar in return for primary asset Rick Nash.
Are we a contender next year with current roster? I don't think so. Even if it's pennies on the dollar, we need to trade Nash. More importantly, I think we should consider trading Lundquist. If rumors are true about a possible Bishop to Stars deal, we should beat them to the punch. Keep them from fixing their cap problems and there will be some talented guys from that team available next season. There's no way they sign Kucherov and Bishop and keep rest of group together. More importantly, we set ourselves up for future. If we can move 2 oldest and highest paid players, and bring back some good youner players, we are set for future. This might be our best chance of freeing up Hanks cap slot for next 5 seasons. Even if we take back a goalie, it's only for 2 seasons and we have a few prospects that should be ready to make the jump. Should also be able to move Gorardi, Staal, and Klein

wonder what they offered? - jimbro83
i think its getting safer to say each day that opening night nash will be on the team. going to have to start the spin zone of a big bounce back year

Nash will have a really good year, I have no doubt, pride is gonna eff with him.

he doesnt seem like the guy to turn the switch off and just coast on the $7.5m per year for 2 more. i love the guy so i know im in the minority but i could see him getting back into the 30s again next year. His leg injury really messed him up.
speaking of legs and cracked kneecaps, when does the next buyout period open?

I am very okay with Nash being on the team another year. I think he's got another 40 goal season in him brewing.
I am hearing Radulov is changing his mind and thinking of playing in NHL, considering it's been established the Rangers were talking to him, I wouldn't bet against that one yet

Didn't he re-sign in the KHL a few days ago? Or was that bogus?

only cska can afford his contract and he doesnt want to go back there. he was trying to use the nhl as leverage. not sure where this ugly (frank) gets his ego from

Radulov still hasn't signed with a KHL team. Only CSKA can afford him, but he isn't crazy about returning there. NHL still a possibility.

Good point, he slipped my mind when writing the blog. Has upside but risk as well given history.

It is already open. I think teams get another after arbitration hearings.
I'm not sure who'd I would rather see dealt...Staal or Girardi. When you see them as rookies and develop, it's tough to send them off. I am leaning towards dealing Staal, though. There's just no reason why not to play McIlrath a hell of a lot more this coming season. He outplayed both Staal and Girardi and to me, offers more than both do (more physical, sticks up for teammates, far better shot from the point). One has to go, that's all I know. Plus there's the cap savings in doing so...

If a new home could be found for Staal, deal him. What is coming back though? That would be a salary dump for a lousy return without a doubt.
I'm with you guys on Nash having a bounce-back year.
Deal Hank? That's just crazy talk!

one definitely has to, but the more time that goes by i feel they'll buy giradi out, and keep staal. if they could have dealt staal (or girardi) at this point it would have been done around the graft.
